Using ListManager, our list size has grown to 1.5 million members in the last year an increase of 650%. We send five mailings a month, and each one drives a huge increase in web traffic. More importantly, our e-newsletters each generate significant incremental revenue over about four days enough so ListManager paid for itself in one mailing.
Because our members can voluntarily provide us with personal information (including health information), privacy is a huge concern for us. The security features built-in to ListManager were exactly what I needed.
I've brought ListManager to the last two companies I worked at, and recommended it to several others. Once you figure out your needs, you can't beat this software for stability, ease of use, flexibility, speed and power.

As one of Canada's leading media companies, CHUM Television sends out over 250,000 mailings a month, covering new shows, events, late-breaking news and more. Since our mailings are advertiser-supported, good reporting is especially critical.
Thanks to ListManager's flexibility, we've been able to develop a new service to allow viewers to request automatic reminder emails shortly before their favorite shows or movies air. This tool is popular with our viewers and our advertisers we're building audience size and loyalty.

We at Wiley Publishing are perhaps best known for our CliffsNotes learning guides and For Dummies how-to books, and we maintain several very large email newsletters for both of these series. Our mailing goal was to provide an automated system to our Internet Newsletter team so they could send 1 million messages each night. Some challenges we faced included delivery speed, cost of software, and the product's strength in being automated. In all areas, ListManager really shined.
The Diamond license we purchased has easily been delivering 200,000 messages per hour, completing our nightly sends with three to four hours to spare.
And since ListManager uses a Microsoft SQL Server back end, we've been able to automate all sub/unsub functions, on-hold messages, and content delivery. We're also able to provide custom reports using Microsoft Access that show our Biz Dev departments exactly the information they want to know.

At Sundance Catalog, we use Lyris ListManager to deliver HTML and regular text emails to over 200,000 of our customers. We send them special offer bulletins two or three times a month, generally to highlight our catalog's seasonal items. We also use the mailings to promote other parts of Robert Redford's Sundance Community, such as the Sundance Village and Sundance Farms.
Before we began with ListManager, we used a hosting service. The per-message monthly fees and overage charges were getting costly, so we evaluated three software packages, and ListManager came out on top because of its flexibility and ease to maintain.
We have been very pleased with the product since implementing it. ListManager has certainly helped us reduce our costs and given us more real-time control over our mailings. But most importantly, we're making money with the software. Looking at a single recent mailing, we increased sales volume by 65% on the items we promoted. In other words, ListManager paid for itself in just one mailing.

VEGAS.com is the most comprehensive Web site for the most entertaining city in the world. The site features in-depth access and information for air, hotels, entertainment, tours, car rentals, golf, restaurants, spa facilities, events and more. We've captured over 250,000 email addresses through our site, and also collect addresses through "gaming for fun" blackjack tables that are set up at major entertainment venues throughout Southern California.
VEGAS.com users live all over the country, and we send mailings to as many as 50,000 individuals each week offering travel and entertainment specials. Many of our special offerings are location-specific, and ListManager's list segmentation effectively targets our users by geographic region. This valuable feature enables us to devise highly-focused mailings, that have resulted in major surges in site traffic. ListManager's clickthrough tracking allows us to review the results of our email campaigns, and provides important research for determining how to best optimize VEGAS.com's offers. We have found ListManager to be an integral tool for achieving our communications and e-commerce goals.

Most people don't think of AAA until their car breaks down. But really, we offer a wide variety of travel, insurance and financial services that our members can use all the time plus some incredible discounts. So we thought an email newsletter would be a great way to promote these benefits in a topical and fun way. And since AAA Washington/Inland has over 812,000 members, we knew we needed a solution that would be economical, flexible and could grow as we grew.
Having no prior experience with email newsletters, we looked at nearly a dozen products, and concluded that Lyris ListManager gave us the best value for our money. ListManager had the email marketing features we needed at a price much lower than that of the hosting services. They all seemed to have relatively high CPMs, and when we did the math, it was pretty obvious that buying ListManager made a lot more economic sense. And ListManager was a great single-purpose solution: we didn't need to replace our pre-existing CRM or phone systems. As a result of our evaluation, we bought a license in August 2001.
Today (March 2002) we're using ListManager to send a regular monthly newsletter to more than 50,000 AAA members. The newsletter includes all kinds of travel advice and promotions: driving tips, insurance information, and special discounts on other products and services we offer. Plus just some useful and fun information to make sure the newsletter got read!
So far we've been very pleased with the results: during the three to five days after we send our newsletter, we see our Web site traffic nearly double! And even after that peak, we see our base traffic rising over the previous month's. We're also experimenting with click-through tracking to determine which content and promotions get the most attention, and expect to see great results in the future.

Powells.com is the Web site of Powell's City of Books - the largest new and used bookstore in the world. Since 1999, we've used Lyris ListManager to create an online community among our customers, as well as to sell more books! We now send about 900,000 messages per month to our 5 lists.
With over 250,000 members, our flagship list PowellBooks.News is filled with book reviews and author interviews, as well as the latest news about our store and our beloved store cat Fup. Just Deals, our next-most-popular list, highlights sales on recommended new and used books that we happen to have overstocked - a good way for us to reduce inventory and give loyal list members a special deal.
Recently, we upgraded to ListManager 6.0. We're excited about its new interface, as well as its segmentation and database integration features. We are planning a bunch of new lists right now, to help customers find newly-arrived used books in their area of interest - an area of very hot demand for us.

Thomson Legal & Regulatory (TLR), the largest market group within The Thomson Corporation, provides integrated information solutions to legal, tax, accounting, intellectual property, compliance and business professionals around the world.
In 2000, TLR in Australia set out to find an effective business solution to support the delivery of electronic products to customers. After approaching three list manager service providers, we selected Lyris ListManager due to its flexible ‘try and buy' approach to new customers.
Following our decision to purchase, the integration of the Lyris system was trouble-free and allowed for easy transfer of our existing data. Over the past two years Lyris has been very supportive, developing regular enhancements to the software and providing effective responses to any queries in a timely manner.
Lyris ListManager has enhanced our capability to deliver our electronic products to our customers.

After using many list servers, I was faced with the problem of integrating a third-party product into our new Web site. Since all of the other systems I looked at had "closed" backends, it was almost impossible to integrate a custom front end and retain important features.
Needless to say, I jumped at the chance of using one of the best list managers on the market when Lyris launched a SQL-based version of their legacy product, which I had used for years.
ListManager with SQL Server allows me to integrate their tables into our membership system... The system works like a dream, and we have successfully launched more than a dozen different lists for our membersall controlled by our custom front end, which writes directly to the SQL tables.

I have been using your Programmer's Guide considerably in the past couple of weeks... We went "live" on August 1, and I have ALWAYS found what I needed in your exhaustive documentation. The examples, field lists and API instructions have made my life a lot easier than I'd imagined. THANK YOU!

As the end-user of Lyris ListManager here at our site, it is great to see that the technical support for your product is as exceptional as its capabilities.
Since finding out about your product, I have been recommending Lyris ListManager to several colleagues who run listserv operations for various government agencies. To date this recommendation has been based primarily on the features (and good documentation) of the product. Now I can add "great technical support" to the list of reasons!

From a management side: absolutely a God send. Its so incredibly easy and fast to create and manage lists. The most fantastic feature must be the ease of management from anywhere on the Internet with a GUI interface.
Number two would be the three-level security, so that we can control the sites and server but allow others (the admins of the lists) to administer their own lists securely.
In our situation, we have somewhat non-technical people who want lists to market their products, entice communication about our programs etc. The simplicity of the administration program allows us to easily train these people how to manage their list, add new subscribers (to closed lists), perform moderation etc. Our procedure is such that these people come to us and ask for a list. We create it to their specs train them, hand them the admin password, and thats it!! All we worry about is the server.
Its been so easy we don't even have a charge back to departments set up. Many of our departments were using outside services and paying for them to do this kind of thing. Now they're all cutting their contracts and putting their lists on our Lyris ListManager system.
We even have links now from our main Web site to the individual lists. For example, if someone is in our Web site looking at a certain program, there would be a button that takes them directly to the Topic page in our Lyris ListManager system and they can pick and choose which lists they want to sign up for or look at. We're even going to have Faqs blasted out to people who request to know when a new product is released or new information is available, etc.
From the user side: all I've heard are wonderful things. Many of our members are at universities using Majordomo or L-Soft. They love being able to adjust their settings, read messages and subscribe, all through the Web.
